The Initial Inspection: Limescale, Bacterial Risk and Disarray
During our initial assessment we found a heavily compromised infrastructure. The original setup took low-pressure mains water through two basic sediment filters into a large 1000-litre buffer tank. A booster pump then drove all domestic water through a single-tank softener. However this softener had suffered complete mechanical failure years ago. As a result severe hard water was passing straight into the house, causing extensive limescale damage across taps, solar elements and domestic appliances.
The drinking water situation was even more concerning. The home relied on two secondary 500-litre deposits filled periodically by commercial water tankers.

A dedicated pump pushed water from these tanks to four drinking outlets inside the house. Storing unchlorinated water in static tanks creates a high risk of bacterial contamination, including dangerous pathogens like Legionella. Furthermore there were no test reports from the tanker suppliers to confirm the water met basic safety standards.

To make matters worse the physical plumbing was in poor condition. It was a messy web of push-fit connectors, plastic lines and copper joins. Flexible hoses sagged between valves without proper brackets, placing constant mechanical strain on leaking fittings.
The Strategy: Clear Space, Sterilise and Soften
Our solution focused on stripping out the unnecessary secondary tanks, protecting the whole property from scale and securing the drinking water against bacteria. Eliminating Stagnant Deposits and Adding RO Purification

Front-End Scale Elimination
Rather than softening water after it sits in storage, we repositioned the treatment order. We installed a commercial-grade non-electric Kinetico S250XP water softener directly on the incoming mains supply before it enters the main 1000-litre buffer tank. Treating the incoming feed guarantees complete all-of-house water softening. Every drop entering the buffer tank and supplying the property is now entirely scale-free, protecting the storage tank, booster pumps and interior pipework from mineral buildup.
UV Sterilisation and System Rationalisation
To eliminate bacterial risk without using heavy chemicals, we integrated an inline Ultra-Violet (UV) sterilisation system directly after the 1000-litre buffer tank. All water pumped into the home and feeding the Reverse Osmosis unit now passes through the UV light chamber. This instantly destroys bacteria and viruses, ensuring total biological safety across every tap.

Finally we removed the messy network of flexible hoses and unstable plastic joins. We completely re-routed the plumbing using rigid, bracketed copper and heavy-duty fittings. Pipe runs were shortened, correctly anchored to the walls to eliminate mechanical stress, and properly isolated with dedicated lever valves for simple future servicing.
The Outcome: A Safe, Streamlined Utility Room
The transformation in Bédar replaced a failing, space-consuming setup with an efficient water plant. The homeowners no longer rely on dubious tanker deliveries or worry about bacterial growth in static tanks.
